Status / Standing (circa formation): At the time of formation, it was one of the largest, or the biggest trade organization in the North Eastern region for sanitary & hardware trade.

Possible Activities / Functions
1. Collective bargaining & representation
Representing members’ interests to local/state authorities: regulations, licensing, taxation, trade policies, infrastructure, etc.
2. Information & coordination
Sharing information about suppliers, prices, new product standards; coordinating among members to address common issues (e.g. raw material supply, logistics, GST or VAT changes).
3. Dispute resolution & standardization
Helping members resolve trade disputes; perhaps standardizing business practices, quality of goods, etc.
4. Events / Exhibitions / Trade Fairs
Possibly organizing or participating in trade fairs, exhibitions to showcase hardware & sanitary goods, or helping members connect with manufacturers.

Overview
Significance
• Being “the biggest trade organization in the Northeastern region” would mean that GSHMA had a large membership base, influence in policy, perhaps had a role in shaping the sanitary/hardware market infrastructure in the region.
• It may have helped merchants in remote areas by providing collective voice – something important in a region with more challenging logistics, infrastructure, and regulatory oversight.
